A former Chastain Middle school teacher is charged with two counts of capital murder. Carla Hughes, 25 is charged in the murder of Avis Banks and her unborn child. Hughes taught reading at Chastain middle school. She was also the cheer-leading sponsor, she resigned from the school Thursday. Hughes turned herself into Ridgeland police Thursday evening.

Avis Banks, 27, was found in the garage of her home on Old Square Court last week. She'd been stabbed and shot. Banks was 5 months pregnant.
