Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith says the sheriff's department is investigating allegations that Raymond High football Coach Vince Granberry had an inappropriate relationship with a female student.

Smith also says copies of text messages the girl sent to Granberry are being subpoenaed.

Before Granberry can be arrested or charged, Smith says state law entitles him to a probable cause hearing.

One parent of a Raymond student is troubled about the allegations against Grandberry.

"Teachers aren't supposed to text message students back and forth," says the woman, who didn't want to be identified.

But Betty Moore, whose grandson attends the school, doesn't believe Granberry has done anything wrong.

"I've never heard anything bad about him.”

Rita Moore believes teachers have a special responsibility to be role models for their students.

"Kids don't have very many people to look up to in their lives sometimes and you know and maybe they come from a broken home or something and sometimes the teacher is really who they look to for guidance," says Moore.

Once sheriff investigators finish looking into the allegations, they can determine if there's enough evidence for a probable cause hearing. The other option is for the district attorney to present the case to the next Hinds County Grand Jury.
