Richard J. McCollough

Richard J. McCollough joined the WSPA Storm Team 7 News Channel 7 Weather Team on July 30, 2007.

Richard is a 28 year veteran of meteorology, television production and broadcasting. A native of the Washington, D.C., Richard graduated from University of Maryland College Park with a B.A. in 1979 and formerly studied and completed courses in meteorology at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio and SUNY Brockport. Richard is a certified meteorologist and holds the (NWA) National Weather Association Seal of Television Approval. He is a member of the prestigious (AMS) American Meteorological Society as well as the (NABJ) National Association of Black Journalists. Richard is a renaissance man. In addition to his expertise and passion for forecasting the weather, which he has diverse experience in across America he is also an avid collector of books, historical items, political and sports memorabilia and model naval war ships from the 18th century. He is very active in the community, a speaker in schools and a mentor to young people. “Education, hard work and respect of self and others was instilled in us by our parents when we were young and growing up, I carry that thought with me everyday”. He is a weight lifter, skier, loves Football and the outdoors. Richard owns a farm and grows hay, alfalfa, fruit trees and berries. He has a daughter and enjoys family gatherings.
Before coming to Spartanburg Richard forecast the weather for 13 WHAM ABC, WHAM 1180 AM, WDKX 103.9 FM, The Democrat and Chronicle Newspaper and WHEC-TV 10 NBC (As Chief Meteorologist) in Rochester, NY. He has worked at stations in Washington DC, Baltimore, MD, Los Angeles, CA and Cincinnati, OH.

Richard can be seen Saturday’s and Sunday’s on the 6 and 11pm news, plus on the CW News at 10pm. Richard can also be seen during the week filling in for Christy Henderson and Dan Bickford.
