Grocery store heads to Downtown Jackson: Signals residential growth

JACKSON, Miss (WJTV) - A grocery store is making its' way to Downtown Jackson.

Corner Market just signed a ten-year lease to locate in the Landmark Building on Capital Street.

The urban based grocery chain will focus on a deli style approach with fresh fruits, vegetables, basic essentials, a lunch counter and indoor seating.

For years economic developers have looked at retail and residential number as an indicator of growth among people living in the downtown area.

Ward 7 Councilwoman Virgi Lindsay says grocery store access is critical to the community. She says she believes a grocery store is a sign of things to come.

Demolition is scheduled to begin in sixty days or less with a projected opening of 2020.
