Registered sex offender arrested for child exploitation

HUMPHREYS COUNTY, Miss. - A registered sex offender in Humphreys County has been arrested for child exploitation and other crimes.

Twenty-five-year-old Leroy Bowman of Belzoni, was arrested at his home Wednesday. He is charged with one count of Child Exploitation and three counts Convicted Felon in Possession of a Firearm. He is also accused of being in violation of the Sex Offender Registry for failing to notify authorities of his residence near an elementary school.

"Our cyber investigators made this arrest following an undercover child exploitation investigation," said Attorney General Hood. "While we cannot reveal the specific results of that investigation at this time, we look forward to presenting our evidence in court."

Bowman was booked into the Humphreys County jail. 

If convicted, he faces up to 40 years on the exploitation charge, 10 years per count for the felon in possession charge and five years for failure to register as a sex offender for a total of 75 potential years behind bars
