Wanted suspect flees deputies and crashes injuring children

HINDS COUNTY, Miss. (WJTV) - Hinds County Sheriff's Officials were on the scene near Hwy 18 and Maddox Rd. where a fleeing suspect ran the light crashing into another vehicle.

Deputies attempted to stop a wanted man near Thousand Oaks Dr. when the suspect allegedly rammed a Sheriff's Deputy car and attempted to run over the officer.

Officers fired shots at the suspect. No one was hit.

Major Pete Luke said, a 5-month old child was driven to a near-by hospital and later air-lifted to UMMC with severe injuries.

Other children and an unidentified woman were also transported to a local hospital, their condition and ages unknown.

The occupant of the other vehicle was alert and talking to officers. His condition is unknown at this time.

31-year-old, Jonathan D. Summers of Raymond was taken into custody and faces multiple charges, including Felony Fleeing, Aggravated Assault on LEO, Felon in possession of a firearm and multiple counts of child endangerment.

The Mississippi Bureau of Investigations and MHP were called to the scene to investigate the shooting incident and the crash.
