GADSDEN, Ala. (AP) - A Texas company is giving up plans to generate electricity with wind turbines along a ridge in northeastern Alabama. Pioneer Green Energy is abandoning the 42 million project, saying rules imposed by the Alabama Legislature were too restrictive. A company attorney says the project has been canceled in Etowah and Cherokee counties.

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - Soaring temperatures are prompting warnings about extreme heat in parts of Alabama. Forecasters say highs in the upper 90s will combine with humidity to make it feel like it's nearly 110 degrees in some areas.

JASPER, Ala. (AP) - A Walker County jury has awarded a Carbon Hill woman millions of dollars in a medical malpractice lawsuit against a doctor who mistook symptoms that led to her husband's heart attack for a stomach illness. The jury awarded Donna Hallmark $4 million in the suit against a Walker Baptist Medical Center emergency room doctor. Hallmark's husband died after visiting the hospital in January 2008.

ORANGE BEACH, Ala. (AP) - Republican Gov. Robert Bentley and his Democratic opponent, former U.S. Rep. Parker Griffith, will make dueling campaign speeches in Orange Beach. Bentley and Griffith are scheduled to address the annual convention of county commissioners this afternoon.
