MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - Montgomery police are investigating a pair of killings over the Labor Day holiday weekend.

Police said 22-year-old Ronald James of Montgomery was found with a gunshot wound shortly after 3 a.m. Saturday on Park Towne Way Drive. He was pronounced dead at a hospital.

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - Police say at least 40 rounds were fired during a gun battle outside a Birmingham motorcycle club that killed two people and wounded two others.

Birmingham police said the shooting happened shortly after 10 p.m. Sunday, outside the Showstoppers Motorcycle Club on Coosa Street.

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - A proposed change to the Alabama Constitution would make gun ownership a fundamental right in the state.

The proposal also would subject any state gun-control measures to the toughest review by the courts.

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (AP) - Rescue crews found two people who became stranded while using inner-tubes to float down the Flint River in northern Alabama when darkness fell and they were unable to make it out of the area.

Authorities say three people began the tubing trip yesterday afternoon, and all three made it to the river bank as darkness fell. They said one person made it to a home late at night and called authorities.
