MCCOMB, Miss. (AP) - A Gloster man has pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in the 2013 fatal shooting of Harry Chapman in McComb. Ricky Renard Howard Jr. was sentenced to 40 years with 10 years. Howard was one of three people arrested in what authorities have described as a drug deal gone bad.
BAY ST. LOUIS, Miss. (AP) - Hancock County authorities are reopening the 40-year-old kidnapping and murder case of 15-year-old Mary Ann Farve, a Bay St. Louis teen who was abducted on April 22, 1974. The FBI released a sketch in 1974 of a man seen by witnesses near where Farve went missing but no one was ever arrested.
VICKSBURG, Miss. (AP) - State archivists have recommended the former Monte Carlo building in Vicksburg be included on the National Register of Historic Places. Nancy Bell, executive director of the Vicksburg Foundation for Historic Preservation, says a state landmark designation would allow building owner Linda Fondren to apply for special grants.
GREENWOOD, Miss. (AP) - The city of Greenwood has hired a consultant to evaluate AT&T's proposal to bring its U-Verse cable television service to town. Mayor Carolyn McAdams says U-Verse could be offered to residents later this year as a second option for cable service.
