JACKSON, Miss. (AP) - Harvey Johnson Jr., who served three terms as mayor of Jackson, says he'll run again for office following the death of incumbent Chokwe Lumumba. Johnson lost the 2013 Democratic primary and has announced he will seek a fourth term in the election scheduled for April 8.
HATTIESBURG, Miss. (AP) - The former head of the state department of marine resources has pleaded guilty in federal court to conspiring to defraud the federal government. Reports say Bill Walker acknowledged that he conspired with a son and a former Department of Marine Resources manager to spend $210,000 in federal money that was obtained through the agency.
GULFPORT, Miss. (AP) - Sentencing has been delayed for an Alabama developer who filled wetlands near Bay St. Louis in violation of the Clean Water Act. Reports indicate William R. "Rusty" Miller of Fairhope will be sentenced April 17 in U.S. District Court. His original sentencing date was March 17.
JACKSON, Miss. (AP) - Jackson police say they've arrested a 22-year-old man after a woman was wounded when she was apparently caught in the crossfire of a weekend gunfight. Police say Tyree Camphor was booked with aggravated assault in the case in which a 21-year-old woman was wounded by a bullet on Sunday.
