NEW ORLEANS (AP) - Spirit Airlines will start direct flights between New Orleans and Chicago and Detroit this fall. Starting Nov. 6, the airline will fly to and from those cities once a day. Spirit currently offers non-stop flights to Dallas/Fort Worth.

NEW IBERIA, La. (AP) - A New Iberia woman has been arrested after leaving a baby in a hot car. Deputies were forced to break a window to remove the 7-month-old child yesterday. Crystal Derouen arrived after deputies removed the baby. Authorities say the child didn't require medical treatment and was later returned to Derouen's custody.

NEW ORLEANS (AP) - Lawyers for people who say defective Chinese drywall wrecked their homes have filed a new lawsuit against the manufacturers. It adds a new defendant - the Chinese commission that oversees 117 widespread companies including aerospace, nuclear power and electronics.

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - Quarterback battles and signal-caller questions abound in the SEC. Gone are stars Johnny Manziel, AJ McCarron and Aaron Murray. At least five teams will have quarterback competition heading into preseason camp. Florida State transfer Jacob Coker is battling Blake Sims to replace AJ McCarron at Alabama.
