Rod Carter

Rod Carter anchors News Channel 8 Today each weekday morning from 4:30 - 7am.

Rod was a reporter and fill in anchor at News Channel 8 for seven years before heading back to WFLA sister station, WVTM in Birmingham Alabama to anchor morning news.

He returned to Tampa in 2010 to anchor the morning news at News Channel 8.

During his 20 plus year career, Rod has covered many local and national stories including the championships for both the Tampa Bay Lightning and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

He is a proud graduate of Florida A&M University in Tallahassee and is a member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity.

Rod is very active in the community  as host of dozens of community events throughout Tampa Bay.

He is also very active in local and national organizations including the National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ) and the Tampa Bay Association of Black Journalists (TBABJ). Rod is also past Deputy Director of Region III for NABJ, former Vice President of Broadcast for the Birmingham Association of Black Journalists and  former Vice President of Broadcast for the TBABJ.

Rod is on the Community Leadership Board of the American Diabetes Association and a board member with the Crescent Foundation, the non-profit arm of the Tampa Chapter of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity. 

He attends Beulah Baptist Institutional Church in Tampa where is on the finance team and is head of Public Relations.
