The American Cancer Society will host a press conference to officially announce a community-wide enrollment for its Cancer Prevention Study-3 (CPS-3), hosted by Central Mississippi Medical Center.

The press conference will address the health, business and community impact of this collective effort.

Date:               Wednesday, March 6

Time:               10 am

Location:        Central Mississippi Medical Center in the Leadership Hall – Education Center on First Floor, South Entrance (Chadwick Drive Side of CMMC)

Background:

  • For the second and last time, residents of the Jackson, MS area have a final opportunity to participate locally in a historic cancer study that has the potential to change the face of cancer for future generations from April 23-27. The Study will end nationwide in 2013. More than 500 enrolled in 2012, and the American Cancer Society hopes for an even greater turnout in 2013.
  • To better understand the lifestyle, environmental, and genetic factors that cause or prevent cancer, the American Cancer Society's Department of Epidemiology & Surveillance Research is recruiting 300,000 adults across the U.S. and Puerto Rico for a new research study, the Cancer Prevention Study-3 (CPS-3).
  • Men and women who are willing to commit to the study must be between the ages of 30 and 65 and never have been diagnosed with cancer. To enroll, individuals provide a waist measurement, give a small blood sample and complete baseline and enrollment survey. Over the course of the study, participants will be asked to fill out follow-up surveys every few years for the next 20-30 years.
