Mike Alzamora is very excited to be in the Magnolia State and to be serving the Central Mississippi community, along with its local sports teams and fans. He joined WJTV News Channel 12 in October, 2012 as a Sports Anchor/Reporter.
Mike has covered sports for the past nine years in both television and radio, reporting in both English and Spanish, since graduating from the prestigious William Allen White School of Journalism at the University of Kansas in 2003. Yes, he's a proud Rock Chalk Jayhawk, and he "HABLA ESPAÑOL" fluently as he was born in Lima, Peru. Mike and his family moved to the U.S. when he was ten years old.
He comes to the Metro from Tyler, TX where he was the radio play-by-play voice of one of the top high school football programs in the Lone Star State as part of the local ESPN Radio affiliate. There, he won three Texas Associated Press Broadcasters Awards, and had the opportunity to cover the Texas Rangers in their two World Series appearances as well as the Dallas Cowboys. Mike also helped launch and operated the Spanish language ESPN Deportes Radio affiliate in East Texas.
Prior to that, he was a Sports Anchor/Reporter for KYTX, the CBS-TV affiliate in East Texas. That followed a two-year stint with KTAB, the CBS-TV affiliate in Abilene, TX, where he covered both Sports and News. Before, Mike was a Sports Reporter/Anchor/Assignments Editor for the Spanish language Univision affiliate in Amarillo, TX, another station he helped get off the ground. That came after serving as the Spanish Sports Anchor for Independent News Network in Davenport, IA, where Mike produced and anchored the daily sports segments for the Salt Lake City, UT Univision affiliate.
Over his career, Mike has covered several NFL Playoff games, three Big 12 Basketball Tournaments, an NCAA Final Four, and Ole Miss' Compass Bowl victory this past January, as well as countless High School State Championship games and tournaments in numerous sports. Mike also won awards for his Radio Sports Play-by-Play and Television Sports Reporting while he was in college.
