
JACKSON (AP) - Malik Newman scored 18 points and grabbed seven rebounds as Callaway held off rival Provine 69-65 to claim its second straight boys Mississippi 5A state championship on Saturday afternoon.
It's the Chargers' fourth state title in school history and third in four seasons.
The game was marred by a brawl in the middle of the third quarter. Four players were ejected from the game - three from Provine and one from Callaway. There were a combined 92 free throws shot in the game.
Jarvis Williams scored 17 points and Dayall Harris added 11 points for Callaway (27-7).
D'Angelo West led Provine (25-7) with 18 points. Jerekius Davis and Quartiez Scott each added 10 points for the Rams, who were seeking their first title since 2008.
