The suspect in the murder of a Mississippi mayoral candidate has been released from a Memphis hospital, and is now in the custody of Mississippi authorities.
Shelby County officials turned over 22 year old Lawrence Reed. Reed had been in the hospital after wrecking the car of the murder victim last month.
Reed is charged with killing 33 year old Marco McMillian who was a candidate for mayor in Clarksdale. McMillian wasn't in the car that reed crashed, but his body was found the next day in rural Coahoma County.
Loved ones remembered McMillian this past Saturday as a humble leader who wanted to serve his community. More than 100 members of Phi Beta Sigma fraternity attended his funeral.
The murder case has received widespread attention because McMillian's campaign believes he was the first viable openly gay candidate for office in Mississippi.
