SULLIVAN COUNTY, TN (WJHL) -

The journey to find justice is often a winding road with turns and unexpected twists. One of those bombshells was released to News Channel 11 three weeks ago.

Sullivan County investigators told us that two unsolved murders in our region may be connected to the same killer. One of the victims is 65-year-old Betty Sue Short.

"We just want to encourage people to understand the bigger scope of the case -- that this is a 65-year-old grandmother and mother. She did not deserve what happened to her," said Detective Randy Murray.

Short was found dead in her Barnett Drive apartment on October 16, 2011. Investigators said the crime scene still haunts them.

"What happened to her was what we consider overkill -- that they had beat her to death, and the crime scene was quite, quite horrific for us to work around," said Murray.

Kingsport investigators continue to search for several items taken from Short's home the day of the murder. Those missing items include a red tool box and several guns.

"We just need those items to be recovered...we know that there are people that have the information that we need," said Murray.

If you have any information that can help investigators, they want to hear from you.

According to the Federal Trade Commission, "Scammers use cameras, keypad overlays, and skimming devices - like a realistic-looking card reader placed over the factory-installed card reader on an ATM or gas pump - to capture the information from your card's magnetic strip without your knowledge and get your PIN."
