Jackson's 1st Adult Kickball League Kicks Off the Season April 7!

A group of excited fans pile into the bleachers at the Police Academy Field on the corner of St. Charles Ave. and Lemly Ave. in West Jackson to cheer on one of their favorite teams. As the each team prepares for battle the excitement mounts. The players take their places of the field. The first pitch is thrown. With each bounce of the big red ball rolling toward the kicker he knows he must make it good. Swoosh! Pow! The ball sails into the air. Fans leap to their feet screaming. The stunned kick finds his legs and runs with all his might to the first base. Although the outfielders have the ball he found his destination first. He is safe and the cycle starts again.
Jackson's 1st Adult Kickball League debuted last spring. The league consists of seven teams; which are twenty-two co-ed players ranging in age from 25-60. There are four veteran teams and three new teams this year.

For each team the rules are still the same; establish bragging rights, clear Sunday's schedule, dust off a pair of cleats, put on shorts and a team shirt and get ready to play some kickball.
The team this year are the Diva Dolls and Dem Dudes; Fantastic Eleven; Straight Ballers; Tiger Tailgaters; Yell-O-Jacks; Regulators and New Kicks. Diva Dolls and Dem Dudes were last year's league champions. Athletic Director Pleshette Smith says, "The league was started to encourage adults to get activity at any age. Yet, give the community a family outing on Sundays."

The League provides more than an opportunity to exercise; it is also gives players and their families an outlet for community involvement. This year, teams will participate in the following events: Relay for Life-June 7, 2013 (American Cancer Society), American Heart Association, Lupus Foundation, American Cancer Walk, Multiple Sclerosis, Sickle Cell, and Mississippi Kidney Foundation.

Also, the league is looking for youth to sing the National Anthem each Sunday before the game. To sign up, upload a video to the Jackson's 1st Adult Kickball League's Facebook page or email Pleshette Smith at jackson1adultkickball2012@gmail.com
