PEARL, MS -- The Mississippi Braves defeated the Mobile BayBears in game two of this opening five-game series at Trustmark Park Friday night. Christian Marrero and Edward Salcedo led the M-Braves with two-hit nights at the plate.
Mississippi (2-0) scored three runs on seven hits while Mobile (0-2) plated its lone run on eight hits.
The M-Braves jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead in the first. Christian Bethancourt doubled and scored on Kyle Russell's RBI-single to right field. Russell took second on a wild pitch before coming in to score on Salcedo's single to left field.
In the top of the sixth, Jon Griffin singled, Nick Evans walked and Garrett Weber singled to load the bases with BayBears. Nick Ahmed followed with a sacrifice fly, driving in Griffin and cutting the M-Braves lead to 2-1.
In the bottom of the seventh, Jaime Pedroza and Mycal Jones drew back-to-back walks. Jose Martinez followed with a pinch-hit RBI-single through the right side, plating Pedroza and extending the M-Braves lead to 3-1.
Michael Lee (1-0) worked three innings of relief to pick up his first win of the season. He limited Mobile to four hits and a walk while striking out one batter. Ryne Harper (S, 1) tossed the final two frames, recording his first save of the season. He gave up one hit and two walks while fanning three.
Zeke Spruill (0-1) started for the BayBears and surrendered the loss. He held the M-Braves to two earned runs on five hits and a walk while striking out five.
J.R. Graham started for the M-Braves but was pulled after two frames. He took a liner off the leg in the top of the second. Graham finished the inning and batted in the bottom half of the inning but did not return for the third.
M-Braves lefty Alex Wood (0-0, 0.00) takes the hill for his Double-A debut in game three of this five-game series. Right-hander Anthony Meo (0-0, 0.00) is scheduled to start for the BayBears.
