Predicting Pain

Posted: Updated:

Scientists from the University of Colorado-Boulder say they are able to objectively measure a person's pain.

The researchers exposed test subjects to different levels of heat, then analyzed brain-scan patterns.  They were able to accurately predict the person's pain level with 90 to 100 percent accuracy.

Currently, doctors ask patients to measure their own pain using a scale of one to 10.  The findings could lead to more reliable ways to detect pain.
