Mississippians are taking aim at republican senator Roger Wicker's controversial vote that opens the door to possible gun control. Wicker was one of 16 GOP senators who voted to end a filibuster Thursday.
The proposed legislation would expand background checks for gun buyers who want to purchase weapons at gun shows or over the Internet.
People posting comments on our facebook page didn't mince words.
Ronnie Coley writes that "Wicker is a "full blooded traitor! He will be looking for a new job next election."
Sarah Lipe says "I will not support wicker if he runs for re-election."
Scott Harrison Williams says,"guess he is on the Obama side now."
Debi Etherege says it's time to "replace him ASAP."
Despite these blistering comments Wicker is getting some support.
Devan Lewis posts that "It's called a background check; no one is taking away any guns. Where do you guys get your information?
And Dorothy Campbell writes, "If better background checks can save just one life, why shouldn't we do it.
On his U.S. Senate facebook page, Wicker defended his vote.
"My vote is in accord with the NRA's position. I have never voted for gun control and will not do so." Wicker also writes "I will filibuster passage of a final bill if it contains gun restrictions or a weapons ban."
