A two day hearing will get underway in Washington today to investigate the January 7 fire on board the Boeing 787 dreamliner at Boston's Logan Airport. The National Transportation Safety Board is expected to focus on issues relating to the design, testing and certification of the battery system.

Meat and poultry will be the topic of another hearing in Washington after the Center for Science in the Public Interest releases its report on the frequency and severity of food borne illnesses. They'll also give advice on reducing risk preparing and consuming meat and poultry.

The Botetourt County Board of Supervisors will meet at the Greenfield Education and Training Center this afternoon at 2. They'll consider approving a revised emergency operations plan and get a broadband presentation.

VDOT will hold a design public hearing tonight at Speedwell Elementary in Wythe County. They'll show plans for the proposed reconstruction of a nearly three mile section of Route 619 (Saint Peters Road). The meeting is from 5:00-7:00 p.m..

A public meeting tonight in Radford will focus on the environmental stewardship program at the Radford Army Ammunition Plant. It's from 6:00-7:00 at the New River Valley Business Center.

An all day event is planned in Vinton today in honor of Administrative Professionals Week. The Roanoke chapter of the International Association of Administrative Professionals is hosting a day of education and camaraderie at the Vinton War Memorial from 8:30 a.m.-3:00 p.m..

Students at Fishburn Park Elementary in Roanoke will celebrate Earth Day with a number of activities today. Starting at 10, they'll work with hybrid cars on the soccer field, open up a GPS course and get a visit from animals at Mill Mountain Zoo.

Meanwhile, President Barack Obama will welcome the 2013 National Teacher of the Year and all of the state finalists to the White House. The prestigious award is in its 63rd year and based on how teachers inspire students of all backgrounds and abilities.
