Gun Shop Killing Suspect Gets Change Of Venue

Hattiesburg -

A man charged with capital murder is now set to stand trial in Rankin County after requesting a change of venue.

The Hattiesburg American reports Forrest County Circuit Court Judge Bob Helfrich entered an order earlier this month setting Drakkar Fleming's trial for Aug. 12.

The 20-year-old Fleming is charged in the May 28, 2011, shooting death of Edward Cameron at his gun shop.

His co-defendant, Gerald Taylor, stood trial in February. Taylor was found not guilty of capital murder, but guilty of accessory after the fact to murder, and was sentenced to five years' imprisonment.

Fleming's attorney filed a motion for the change of venue in March, citing excessive pre-trial publicity as a likely reason drawing an impartial jury from Forrest County would be difficult.
