The Delta Blues Museum of Clarksdale is one of 10 to across the country to be honored with National Medal for Museum and Library Service from the Institute of Museum and Library Services.
The National Medal will be presented to the museum at a celebration in Washington on May 8.
According to a news release, the National Medal celebrates institutions that make a difference for individuals, families, and communities.
The Delta Blues Museum was chosen because "it celebrates the history, showcases live performances, and nurtures the next generation of blues musicians," according to the release.
The museum was established in 1979 by the Carnegie Public Library board of trustees and reorganized as a stand-alone museum in 1999, and is Mississippi's oldest music museum.
