Authorities say an inmate who died during a weekend fight at a prison in southwestern Mississippi suffered a fatal stab wound.
Wilkinson County Coroner Travis Sharp tells the Enterprise-Journal that an autopsy shows 21-year-old Demond Flowers was stabbed once in the heart. Sharp says he doesn't know what kind of weapon was used.
The incident occurred shortly after 10 a.m. Saturday when multiple fights broke out between inmates at multiple housing units across the 1,000-bed Wilkinson County Correctional Facility near Woodville. Several other inmates were hurt.
Flowers was serving an 18-year sentence for car burglary, strong-arm robbery and robbery from Hinds County.
The prison is operated by Corrections Corporation of America.
Authorities say an investigation is continuing.
