Joshua Coffee, 21, and Willie Willis, 20, are each charged with manslaughter. They made their first court appearance in Vicksburg Municipal Court Thursday afternoon.
Police say the two men were at Willis' home Monday night, babysitting his stepbrother, Jerald Tucker Jr., 10. The father was away at work. Authorities say the men were messing with Willis' gun when it discharged and shot Jerald in the back of the head. Jerald was rushed to the hospital and remained on life support until he died Wednesday.
Both men adamantly admit it was an accident. Police say they weren't up front until officers later found a gun in the creek behind the home.
The case will now go to a grand jury. Coffee is also charged with possessing a weapon by a felon. Jerald was being raised by a single father after the mom died a few years ago.
