Protein May Push Parkinson's Along

Posted: Updated:

A protein known to play a role in the development of Parkinson's disease helps release enzymes that are toxic to cells, according to a study done at Loyola University.

The study says the protein is able to enter and harm the cells in the same way that viruses do.

Researchers say the finding could eventually lead to the development of new therapies to delay the onset of the disease or slow its progression.
