Rockbridge County girl hospitalized after ibuprofen reaction

Posted: Updated:

A 7-year-old Rockbridge County girl is recovering from a severe reaction from ibuprofen, according to her father, John Gillespie.

Gillespie tells us his daughter was diagnosed with a rare syndrome, following the reaction, that caused blisters to appear on her skin and problems breathing.

Although doctors say the syndrome is rare, Gillespie wanted to share his daughters story as a precaution to parents.

"It's been so scary. I just would tell parents to learn as much as you can about what is out there, read the labels, be aware of how your child is reacting," said Gillespie.

Gillespie said his daughter has been released from UVA Medical Center and is going through therapy now.

"She is getting better everyday," said Gillespie. "Seeing her smile again brings tears to my eyes."

The community is coming together to help raise money for the family, as this has been a very expensive situation.

Donations can be sent to the address below:

City National Bank, Attn: Kim Patterson, 102 Walker Street, Lexington, VA 24450.

Be sure to mention the donation is for John Gillespie.
