WJTV - The NCAA has banned the use of the '#' symbol on football fields because it may be used as advertising. Mississippi State is believed to be the first school in the nation to employ such a design on the playing surface.
MSU first used #HAILSTATE in one of its endzones for the 2011 Egg Bowl. Since then they've used that same hashtag as well as other variations.
