WJTV News Channel 12 - Jonathan Agee to be sentenced today

Jonathan Agee to be sentenced Tuesday

Posted: Updated:

Former Franklin County sheriff's deputy Jonathan Agee faces the possibility of receiving two life sentences today at his sentencing hearing in Roanoke Circuit Court.

It is a joint sentencing between Roanoke and Montgomery County.

On Memorial Day 2011, Agee drove to Roanoke and shot his ex-wife, Jennifer Agee, at a Roanoke Sheetz.

Now former state trooper Matt Brannock helped chase him down I-81 until both crashed.

Agee, driving his marked Franklin County sheriff's office cruiser, got out and shot Brannock.

Brannock survived.

He has since retired from state police.

The hearing will start at 9:30 a.m.

Sources said to expect at least one of Jennifer Agee's family members to testify, explaining to the judge their enormous loss.

Brannock could testify as well.

The defense is expected to be the so-called "steroid defense."

Defense attorney C.J. Covati hired a renowned psychiatrist to examine the case.

Dr. Harrison Pope Jr. is on staff at a teaching hospital affiliated with Harvard Medical School.

Pope is an expert on how long term steroid use impacts the brain.
