Vicksburg, MS -

State Representative George Flaggs, Jr. is the projected winner of Vicksburg's mayoral primary election and is projected to become the River City's next mayor.

Some absentee ballots and affadavits still have to be counted Wednesday morning to make the win official.

Flaggs barely avoided a runoff election with Linda Fondren.

A few absentee and affadavit ballots will still be counted Wednday morning before Flaggs is officially declared the Democratic primary winner.

Flaggs will face independent candidate Daryl Hollingsworth in the Vicksburg mayoral general election on June 4.

This mayoral primary race had the most individual candidate story lines among Tuesday's races.

incumbent Mayor Paul Winfield faced five opponents, just two and a half months after his federal bribery arrest.

Mayor Paul Winfield faced David Day, John Ferguson, State Representative George Flaggs, Jr., Linda Fondren, and Gertrude Anderson Young.

Mayor Winfield is currently facing federal bribery charges for allegedly taking thousands of dollars from an FBI informant.

Fondren made headlines when it was revealed that she had prior ties to a brothel in Nevada.
