Giles student breaks own and mother's track record

GILES COUNTY, VA -

A Giles 8th grader is leaving her mark on her high school.

Kiersten Shrader first caught our attention last May when as a 7th grader, she broke the school long jump record that stood nearly 30 years.

That previous record of 15'3 3/4" was set by her mother, Bendy in 1984. Kiersten jumped 15'4" to break it. This season, she jumped 16'6" to break her own record, according to her mother.

Her proud mother says the school record for triple jump was set in 2007 with a jump of 31'3 1/2" and Kiersten set a new record of 31'7".

Monday, Kiersten's 4x100 relay team broke her mother former team record of 56.64 set in 1984 and set a new record at 55.84.

Bendy joked, as she did last year, "Kiersten is grounded again!"
