The Mississippi State Senate will
sponsor Shape Up at the Capitol on Wednesday to promote healthy lifestyles for
state employees, Lt. Gov. Tate Reeves announced today. The event will be from
11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the southwest side of the Capitol.
Shape Up at the Capitol will offer music, food, exercise demonstrations, and a fitness fair where state employees can talk with representatives from local fitness-related programs and facilities.
May is National Employee Health and Fitness Month. Encouraging healthy living habits can maintain a healthy workforce, increase productivity and manage health care costs. Vendors at the event include YMCA, Baptist Healthplex, Courthouse Fitness, Butterfly Yoga, Applause Dance, Salsa MS and many more.
State employees also can participate in State Employee Day at the Mississippi Farmers Market on May 30. The event will be from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the Mississippi Farmers Market on High Street. Last year, more than 400 state employees representing more than 45 agencies participated. Along with local farmers selling fresh produce and Mississippi-made products, other vendors will include local artisans and health information booths.
