Madison and Rankin Counties' District Attorney Michael Guest announced today that Brian Harris Porch received a 30-year sentence after he entered a plea of guilty to two counts of Gratification of Lust. Porch entered his guilty plea at the end of the first day of his trial. The Court suspended the last ten years of his sentence and ordered that he placed on five years of supervised probation once he is released from custody.
Porch will be required to serve the twenty year sentence day-for-day in prison without the possibility of probation, parole or early release. In addition, he is required to register as a sex offender.
In April of 2012 the Pearl Police Department was contacted by the father of one of the children who reported that he had taken his daughter to the emergency room because he feared she had been the victim of sexual abuse. The child then disclosed that she had been inappropriately touched by Porch on at least one prior occasion.
During the investigation the Pearl Police Department located a second victim who stated that she too had been inappropriately touched by Porch. Both girls were taken to the Mississippi Community Education Center were they were able to disclose in great detail the assault by Porch.
At trial both victims again told the jury of the abuse they suffered at the hands of Porch. At the conclusion of the first day of trial the defendant changed his plea to a plea of guilty without a recommendation from the District Attorney's Office.
Guest stated, "These two little girls have their entire lives in front of them, but their lives will be forever impacted by this sexual predator. As a society we can have no tolerance for crimes committed against our children. However, if one does occur, we must make sure that the person who commits the crime is prosecuted."
Guest added, "I once again cannot thank the Pearl Police Department and the Mississippi Community Education Center enough for their commitment to protect our children. Their hard work has resulted in a child molester going to jail for a long time."
Guest concluded, "This conviction and sentence assures that Porch will no longer have the opportunity to prey upon these or other young girls."
District Attorney Michael Guest was sworn into office in January 2008 and represents the Twentieth Judicial District, Madison and Rankin Counties. For more information regarding the District Attorney's office, please visit www.daguest.com.
