Softball Hokies Ready For NCAA Regional

Posted: Updated:

Playing in the post season is the goal of any athlete, on any level. Last Sunday Virginia Tech's softball team reached that goal--being selected to play in the NCAA regional Playoffs in Lexington Kentucky. Pitcher Kelly Heinz described the team hearing the announcement as something of an explosion of emotion when they realized they were in--and where they were headed.  Coach Scot Thomas talked about being in the final 64 teams--and how they are among the last teams playing, which is everyone's goal.

Another thing to be excited about is their opponent in the opening game-- Notre Dame. The Fighting Irish will join the ACC next year and the girls want a win to send a message about what the future conference squad will have to look forward to next season.  The team wants to show the Irish what the ACC is all about---and the girls will have that chance to prove that Friday at 5pm when both teams take the field.
