Nyla Myers thought she was getting an award for being student of the month of her kindergarten class. But, the real surprise was her father coming home a month early from serving overseas.
"It means so much. I love my daddy," expresses Nyla.
Her mother also got his family to attend the surprise at Steens Creek Elementary School.
"I've been lying for two days getting everybody in place and making sure the key people didn't know what was going on," laughs Charisse Myers.
After all the hugs and tears, the Myers family looks forward to re-uniting and spending as much time together as they can.
"I'm just overwhelmed and overjoyed right now to be home and to see them again," Master Sergeant Kevin Myers tells News Channel 12.
And, being away from home for six months can really make a man crave some good home cooking.
"I want some of my grandmother's banana pudding. That's the first thing on the list. On my daughter's list, she wants a pet, so we'll get a pet," adds Kevin.
Kevin will return to his full-time job at the Mississippi Air National Guard base. And, there is a possibility that he will be deployed again.
Kevin is an aviation resource management specialist. His job includes caring for wounded warriors coming off the battlefield. He was deployed to Afghanistan in January.
