Clinton, MS -
Authorities are investigating a dead body found late Saturday night in Clinton as a homicide.
Hinds County Coroner Sharon Grisham Stewart tells us 21-year-old Mark Nichols died of a single gunshot wound to the head.
The coroner says Nichols' body was found around 9:45 Saturday night in tall grass just off Clinton Tinnin Road near Daniel Drive.
Nichols' family tells us loved ones knew him as Chuck.
Clinton's Interim Police Chief Mike Warren says they've questioned a man named Tommy Bass.  So far, Bass has not been charged.

There was a previous warrant for his arrest on a contempt charge.  He surrendered to police Sunday.

Chief Warren says Clinton PD believes Nichols and Bass were arguing over a woman.  According to Warren, that woman told police she hadn't seen Nichols since about 12 hours before his body was found.

We spoke with family members of Nichols, they still can't believe he's gone.

They say he was never in trouble and wouldn't hurt anyone.

Nichols leaves behind two sons, a 5-year old and a 1-year old.
