Grilling safety reminders

Posted: Updated:

On this Memorial Day, many people will fire up the grill. Before you do, the National Fire Protection Association has some safety tips for summer grilling.

First off, only use propane and charcoal grills outdoors. Place them away from house, deck railings, and away from under leaves and hanging brunches.

Keep children and pets away and do not leave your grill unattended. Always keep grills clean.

If you prefer propane, don't forget to check the gas tank hose for leaks. Apply some soapy water to the hose. If there is a leak, there will be bubbles. Do not use a tank with a leak. Make sure to get the tank checked by a professional before the next use if the leak stops.

If you use a charcoal grill, never add charcoal fluid or any flammable fluids to fire and let the coals cool down before disposing of them in a metal container.

Grill safely!
