BRISTOL, TN (WJHL) -

Maybe it was a ride too tough to give up.

Bristol, Tennessee Police say a man stole a car - then tried to steal the same car a second time.

The car is a 1984 Chevy Corvette.   Police say the man spotted it at "Kars R Us" on Volunteer Parkway March 21st.

A week later, police found the car and returned it to the dealer.

Two weeks later in the early morning hours of April 15th, passed the "Kars R Us" lot and noticed lights on in one of the vehicles.   The officers said he saw someone trying to steal a Corvette - the same one stolen just days before.

Also missing in the theft - a car title, keys, and a gun.

"The gun is the most important thing because we're wanting to track that thing down," said Investigator Brian Hess, Bristol Tennessee Police.   "The car has been sold, but the gun is still out there."

According to the Federal Trade Commission, "Scammers use cameras, keypad overlays, and skimming devices - like a realistic-looking card reader placed over the factory-installed card reader on an ATM or gas pump - to capture the information from your card's magnetic strip without your knowledge and get your PIN."
