On Wednesday, June 12, construction will begin on West Street between Marshall Street and Woodrow Wilson Avenue. The project will consist of replacing a 90-year-old water line, three feet of Yazoo clay and old asphalt with suitable soils and new asphalt. City workers will also replace curb and gutter and sidewalks. Due to the narrow right-of-way along West Street and the scale of the project, the following travel restrictions will be put into place:
The closures will last two to three months. Once work on the southbound side of West Street is completed, similar closures and restrictions will be put in place for the northbound side of West Street.
Throughout this project, motorists should drive with care and watch out for construction equipment within the work zone. Work on this project will occur during daytime hours.
