CLINTON - Mississippi Brilla bounced back from a disappointing 1-0 loss to the Orlando City U23's last week to get back in the win column with a 3-1 win over the Southwest Florida Adrenaline Thursday night.
Brilla's Eduardo Cruz started the scoring early with a beautiful volley in the 11th minute. Cruz controlled a short clearance from the Adrenaline's defense and placed his shot into the corner of Manuel Schonhuber's net.
Brilla scored again in the 34th minute when Martin Gonzalez laid off a pass to Tom Gavin. Gavin struck the shot from 20 yards with his first touch, blasting it over the helpless Adrenaline goalkeeper into the top of the net.
The Adrenaline pulled a goal back in first half stoppage when Quade Marinell crossed to a wide open Xavier Silva. Silva calmly headed the ball home to bring the score to 2-1 at halftime.
Brilla reestablished their two goal cushion in the 58th minute when Gonzalez took a flicked pass from AJ Arnold and dribbled 40 yards past several Adrenaline defenders. He placed his shot past an onrushing Schonhuber to put Brilla up 3-1 and end the scoring for the night.
The win takes Brilla to 4-2 on the season. The Mississippi squad now has a week to rest and recover before a grueling three-game Florida road trip. The team travels to VSI Tampa Bay FC on June 21, IMG Academy in Bradenton on June 23, and the Panama City Beach Pirates on June 25.
Brilla's next home match will be when they host the Pirates on June 29 at Clinton High School at 7:00 PM.
