There was nothing that employees and volunteers could do to protect the tents that were already set up for the Roanoke Valley Hose Show from yesterday's storm.
President of the Roanoke Valley Horse Association, Mark Hartberger says, "the storm came in very quickly. Within five minutes it crossed the mountain and it was here."
His daughter Chelsea Hartberger, Executive Director of the Roanoke Valley Horse Show says, "it's just unbelievable the amount of effort and time, that within seconds, was completely demolished."
Within an hour of the storm blowing through, people from the community were already at the Salem Civic Center to begin the cleanup process.
With everything torn apart by the winds, there was a lot of work to be done.
"We're starting off with everything brand new," says Mark. "Everything in these tents was destroyed. So we have lightening, and electrical, everything has to be replaced."
Chelsea and Mark say there is no such thing as too many volunteers, they're asking anyone with extra time to come out and help.
The show runs June 17 through June 22.
