It was a colorful day in the Star City as thousands gathered for the first-ever color run in Roanoke.
The 5K is billed as the happiest race in the world. More than 4,000 runners were showered with bags of color as they trekked through the streets of downtown Roanoke.
A portion of the proceeds from the event benefit local Autism awareness and the American Cancer Society.
"I love Roanoke. We are so excited to be here today to work with the city. we pick local charities wherever we go. In 2012, we donated over a million dollars to charity" said Alec Fowler, the race director.
Color run officials promised a return visit to the Star City next year.
