(WJHL) -

A bus carrying the Elizabethton Twins from Fort Myers to Elizabethton was involved in a fatal crash early this morning.

Elizabethton Twins General Manager Mike Mains confirmed to News Channel 11 this morning that the team bus collided with a car just north of Jacksonville shortly after 4 a.m.

Florida Highway Patrol Sgt. Dylan Bryan says the driver of a black Honda died. The car was traveling south in the northbound lanes on Interstate 295 when it collided head-on with the bus.

The driver was described as a man in his mid-20s. His identity was being withheld until family is notified.

No one on the team's bus was injured in the crash.

The team had to wait at the scene for another bus to pick them up. They left about 7:45 a.m., and are expected to arrive in Elizabethton around 4 p.m. this afternoon to prepare for their Appalachian League opener Thursday.
