Former teacher and psychometrist Chaffie Gibbs is the Clinton Public School District's new special education department director.
Gibbs replaces Laura Purdie who retired this year.
"The Clinton Public School District is committed to providing excellence in education to all students, and this includes children in our special education program," Gibbs said. "I believe in what we're doing and am looking forward to leading the special education department."
Gibbs has a bachelor's degree and a master's degree in special education from Mississippi State University. She is certified in school counseling, vocational counseling and psychometry.
She has been an educator for 23 years, including six years as a middle school teacher in the Louisville Municipal School District and four years as a teacher at Clinton High School. She has worked in the special education office for 13 years in various roles, most recently as CPSD's psychometrist.
She has been married for 18 years and has two children.
"Mrs. Gibbs brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to this position," said Dr. Phil Burchfield, superintendent of schools. "A good special education program is critical in a school district, and we are looking forward to working with Mrs. Gibbs as the department director."
