The following is a statement from Montgomery County Sheriff Deputy Fred Jones:
Following a special prosecutor's determination that officers used justifiable
force in the March shooting death of Robert Hughes, Montgomery County Sheriff's
Deputy Fred W. Jones has released the following statement:
"I would like to express my appreciation to my fellow law enforcement officers, my family and friends, and the community at large for their support during the investigation surrounding the March 29, 2013 incident."
"I would also like to express my appreciation to the Virginia State Police and Special Prosecutor Thomas E. Bowers for their professionalism during this process."
"While disappointed that some members of the media used questionable reporting when covering this incident, I was confident that the evidence in the case would clearly show that all the officers involved acted according to established protocol."
Jones' attorney, Christopher Tuck, also expressed his appreciation to the Virginia State Police and Special Prosecutor for their professionalism and their meticulous review of evidence surrounding the incident. Tuck also said "An investigation of this type is a thorough but time-consuming process and my client looks forward to being back on the job protecting the citizens of Montgomery County."
