Food, fun and families celebrating Independence Day took over the Ross Barnett Reservoir Saturday evening.
"It's our first time ever coming to something like this, and my son's having fun," says Bobbie Jo DeJesus.
The grills were nice and hot with plenty to choose from.
"What we're providing today, is a prime-cut steak, marinated on the grill," says Andrew Parham from Jacos Tacos. "We have a marinated chicken breast, and we do a braised Majave pork."
"We've already eaten once today," says Debbie Hurt. "Big meal! And we'll probably eat another big meal sometime today."
Families scattered themselves throughout the park, participating in planned activities as well as their own fun.
"She just did the bouncy house, and we're going to sit and watch the parade and the firecracker show," says Mytesha Carter.
One couple had plenty of reasons to be at the Reservoir celebrating.
"Our anniversary. We've been married 39 years today, and it was on a Saturday," say Carol and Jim Whitfield. "We were hoping this would be a good family thing."
