Local Youth in Spotlight at Greenbrier

Posted: Updated:

Day two of the practice rounds at the Greenbrier Classic is dubbed Youth day. While the Pro's work on their game or get familiar with the course...a youth clinic and even a friendly competition was taking place....and some talent from our area was right in the thick of things.

First Tee of the Roanoke Valley and West Virginia were both part of the festivities on the Old White TPC.  Some lucky youngsters got to play a three-hole scramble exhibition along with two pros---Jonathan Byrd and Billy Horschel.  Cave Spring's rising junior Meagan Board was the First Tee of Roanoke's entrant---and along with Horschel, Board's group won the scramble with a 2 under total. It was a day that nearly didn't happen for the Cave Spring player. A player from Salem was originally scheduled to play but he awoke the morning of the match with a high fever. Board was scheduled to caddy but was pressed into action instead.
