Some bus problems reported as Wake Co. year-round students return

RALEIGH, N.C. -

Some pockets of transportation problems were reported as thousands of year-round students in Wake County are head back to school today.

Wake County Public Schools has 48 year-round schools. Students in tracks one, two and three begin classes today.

School spokeswoman Renee McCoy says "it's scattered around. We've had reports that busses are as much as 30 minutes late; some more than that."

McCoy says WCPSS are asking parents to visit a transportation web site let us know where the problems are "so we can work that out."

She says the transportation website "has increased customer service prepared to handle those concerns and have information posted that parents can access."

McCoy says if busses arrived late at stops this morning, the same situation could happen during the return trip from school back home.

"Some of those same late arrivals may happen when students return home this evening," she explained. "We ask parents to please be patient with us. In the first days of school, we're working through the bugs."

Drivers are asked to be cautious near schools and bus stops as students start school and learn new routines.

Parents looking for bus route information for year-round students can go here. Bus routes for traditional calendar schools will be updated online in mid-August.

McCoy says they are still seeking bus drivers for routes that'll start in August.

" We hope to have a whole lot more bus drivers in place at that time," she said..
