Cedric Ratliff, 26, remains free after violating a bond from a murder charge stemming from last year.
Ratliff was arrested in a drug bust in Jackson over the weekend. He immediately posted a $50,000 bond. However, Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith says Ratliff should have never been allowed to post bond. He says Ratliff was already out on bond for a murder and his recent arrest violates the conditions set from the first bond.
Ratliff is accused of shooting and killing Edward Evans, 15, last year in Jackson. Smith says it's not unusual that a trial has not gone to court yet. He says more people may be charged.
Smith says he will ask the court to revoke his bond and put him back in jail. If the court agrees, Ratliff will be arrested or given the opportunity to surrender.
Smith doesn't want to blame anyone, but says something was clearly overlooked at the jail before officials let him go.
Police say Ratliff was also on probation on a separate drug charge. Smith says he doesn't have that information in this file. He says if that's the case, Ratliff should have been sent back to jail long before this weekend's drug bust.
