Judge cancels sentencing in doc shopping case

Posted: Updated:

A federal judge has cancelled the July 15 sentencing for former narcotics agent Searn Lynch, who has pleaded guilty to lying to obtain prescriptions for pain medication.
A notice Friday on the website of U.S. District Court in Oxford said the hearing was cancelled. It says the hearing is postponed until further notice due to a scheduling conflict.
Lynch was fired from the Oxford Police Department after being charged with "doctor shopping" for prescription pain medicine. Court records show he was arrested on charges alleging that he got prescriptions from at least 17 doctors.
He pleaded guilty in April to one count of obtaining prescription drugs by deception.
His sentence can carry a maximum of four years in prison.
