Virginia State Police are investigating a fatal ATV crash in Washington County, Virginia. Around 2:30 p.m. Sunday, state police were called to the scene on private property along Route 730, north of Damascus.

Police discovered a crashed four-wheeler and a deceased male adult at the base of a steep embankment. The ATV had apparently gone down the embankment, and struck a tree.

The remains were transported to Johnson Memorial Hospital, and then on to the Medical Examiner's Office in Roanoke to confirm identification and date of death. State police are still in the process of locating and notifying next of kin.

The incident remains under investigation. We'll continue to update you as more details become available.
